Public Projects Assistant – Center for History and New Media

  • As part of the public projects team I am working on web and multi-media projects for clients and partners of CHNM.
  • Involved in creating a prototype Omeka powered site for a CIA papers project.
  • Contributed research to a ‘state of the field’ analysis of mobile technologies and their use and potential uses for museums.
  • Selected as the summer 2009 Mellon Fellow for Omeka, a content management system for museums and archives.
  • Produced a series of instructional screencasts for Omeka users.

Graduate Teaching Assistant

  • Assisted Dr. Janet Walmsley with History 100, a Survey of Western History course.  I was responsible for grading weekly to bi-weekly essay assignments that ranged from two to six pages for a class of fifty students.  I coordinated with Dr. Walmsley on grading strategies and developed writing critique techniques.  I was also responsible for responding to student email questions and commenting on rough drafts.

  • Responsible for coordinating analog and digital satellite receivers for both uplink and downlink, tuning microwave signals, coordinating multiple program distribution feed schedules and output, processing editing requests, media organization, archiving, and quality control.

Senior Producer/Videographer/Editor

  • Produced both commercial spots and long form video projects as part of marketing campaigns for various not-for-profit organizations.
  • Responsible for the production of Helium, a 13-part series for distribution through the National Educational Television Association.
  • Involved in all aspects of production from conception to completion including client meetings and planning, location scouting, scripting, scheduling, video and audio collection, editing, creating graphics and animations, and designing interactive DVDs.

  • Edited packages with both linear and non-linear editing systems underextreme deadline pressure.

Studio Supervisor – Creative Services Department

  • Responsible for the management, training, and scheduling of three full-time and several part-time television production staff members.
  • Proficient in roles as director, videographer, editor, audio technician, graphics designer and lighting director. Also responsible for set assembly and lighting design of new sets.
  • Experience with live and taped studio production, live event and performance taping, and documentary production.
  • Also served as additional producer/videographer/editor for Virginia Currents, a newsmagazine program produced by Commonwealth Public Broadcasting, from 2003-2005 and WCVE promotions editor in the summer of 2005.

RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Redesign of Society for History in the Federal Government website.
  • Produced, wrote, directed, and edited an educational video entitled Women’s Worlds 2005: An Introduction to Global Feminisms for the department of Women’s Studies at VCU.
  • Did preliminary research and development for a documentary and website, 100 years of Women’s Activism in Virginia, in cooperation with a professor in the department of History at VCU.
